VDOT-VAA Statewide Asphalt Cooperative Committee Summer Meeting

The summer meeting of the VDOT-VAA Statewide Asphalt Cooperative Committee was held virtually on August 26. It was hoped that this would be the committee’s first hybrid (in-person with a virtual option) meeting since the beginning of the pandemic. However, technology issues at the Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC) required a return to an all-virtual format. Even though it remained virtual, the meeting was very well attended with nearly 50 participants. The packed agenda included an update from the SMA Rutting Sub-Committee, pavement marking/paint shortage update, Balanced Mix Design, and e-ticketing. There was significant interest in the e-ticketing presentation from Susan Downing-Reed (AASHTOWare project manager in VDOT’s construction division), with the industry partners desiring further discussion on the topic in the very near future. Lastly, there was a discussion related to district cooperative meetings and the need to hold two such meetings in each district each year. The meeting concluded shortly after noon. The next meeting of the committee is tentatively scheduled for December 2.
