VDOT switching to PIMs with January 2020 contracts

In a recent meeting with VDOT’s Chief Engineer, Barton A. Thrasher, P.E., he stated all contracts starting in January would use the plastic inlaid markers (PIMs) and not the steel snow-plowable raised pavement markers (SRPMs). Several maintenance schedule projects advertised in the Fall of 2019 had the SRPMs. However, the decision was made to replace these markers with PIMs. Contractors bidding VDOT work are advised to review the contracts and addendums related to markers before bidding.
