In 2020, VDOT will no longer be installing steel snow plowable raised pavement markers (Figure 1) on maintenance paving contracts. Instead, VDOT contracts will require the use of ground in plastic pavement markers (Figure 2). Plastic pavement markers will be placed at the low point in a 7 foot-long groove cut into the new asphalt surface. Exact details of the installation process are being finalized, and a special provision will be available later in August.
