COVID-19 has disrupted lives and impacted typical ways of conducting business. For VAA, COVID-19 ultimately lead to the cancellation of the Annual Members Meeting. VAA conducted the business of the association during a virtual meeting on May 1, but there was still a glimmer of hope for an in-person meeting in mid-June. However, it quickly became clear that the hoped-for meeting would not occur for the first time in the 69-year history of VAA. Instead of dwelling on the disappointment, VAA staff and the Board of Directors moved forward with a webinar series for members. Each webinar, 60 to 90 minutes in length, focused on one of the topics from the Annual Meeting agenda. Susan Salen of Rees Broome presented the first webinar on an employer’s potential liability with COVID-19 (held on May 28). The second webinar on June 2 outlined a possible health care plan for VAA members. For the webinars on June 9and 16, presenters from Troutman Sanders and Vectre covered the outcomes of the 2020 General Assembly session. The final two webinars will be held on June 25 and 30 and will include the second half of 2020 General Assembly session outcomes and the impact of COVID-19 on VDOT funding and other changes planned by VDOT.
