For the second time in 15 years, Superior Paving Corp. is leading the National Asphalt Pavement Association. On January 24 Superior Paving’s President Jim Mitchell was “passed the gavel” from outgoing chair, Jay Winford of Prairie Construction. In 2007, Superior Paving’s Ron White led the national organization. And for only the third time in NAPA’s history, a father-son duo has been chair. Jim’s late father, Bart Mitchell, was chair in 1982. Present during the NAPA Annual Meeting “passing the gavel” ceremony with Jim where his wife, Jill; son, Charlie and daughter, Sam.
In recent years, Jim has been instrumental in reshaping the governance structure for NAPA. Besides changing the board of directors’ structure, NAPA has initiated regional advisory councils to help lead and direct the organization. When ask what his platform would be, he replied, “My platform is to support NAPA and the work they are doing. NAPA has many initiatives underway ranging from workforce to engineered mixes, to climate stewardship. I want to make sure I am supporting them.” Over the next year, he will be traveling to the various state association and national meetings. He will be addressing VAA at the Annual Meeting in late April. Congratulations Jim on your appointment.
