Roses are Red, Asphalt is Black, WofA VA is Right on Track!

The Women of Asphalt Virginia branch (WofA VA) kicked off the new year with a virtual meeting to discuss plans and ideas to keep growing and supporting the mission of WofA in 2023. The meeting occurred on Galentine’s Day – the day before Valentine’s Day, dedicated to honoring women and friendship. The branch leaders thought this was the perfect day to rally the gals and discuss goals and objectives for the new year. Members tuned in and shared great ideas to keep moving the branch in the right direction and inspire more women to join. The wonderful thing about WofA VA is that all women (and men) in the industry are welcome to participate. During the meeting, women from the asphalt industry and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) shared their ideas and thoughts. It’s great to see both sides of the spectrum involved in the work and passion of the branch. In the past year, WofA VA has hosted regional receptions to allow women to network with other local industry workers in their backyard. The branch is so thankful to Associated Asphalt and Virginia Paving for stepping forward and hosting events in their regions for the men and women that attended.

There are plans to have a regional reception in the Lynchburg area on April 20, sponsored and hosted by Boxley Materials and Randall Patterson Paving, LLC. A second reception in the Southwest district in will be held in May and will be sponsored and hosted by W-L Construction & Paving. Along with these social events, WofA VA hopes to offer an educational event in 2023. Finally, keep your eyes open for some great opportunities that WofA VA plans to participate in to lead and inspire the coming generation. We continue to work on breaking barriers for women in the asphalt industry. Onward and upward!
