Following the theme GOBIG, this year’s VAA Mid-Atlantic Asphalt Expo & Conference was held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center with over 55 exhibitors and more than 600 attendees. Paving equipment, trucks, flashing signs, informational booths, and a top fuel dragster were all part of the show. Many of these exhibitors hosted information sessions to describe their latest and greatest innovations during the conferences exhibitor spotlight sessions on Thursday afternoon.
The conference began Wednesday with the well recognized motivational speaker Todd Huston and continued with presentations on the Vint Hill interchange, workforce of tomorrow, developing old pavements, announcement of the best paving projects, and rounding out the afternoon, the awarding of the first Golden Lute (See Inaugural Golden Lute Winner article).
Thursday was jam-packed with four concurrent training and technical sessions. Experts from industry and academia provided training on topics such as asphalt paving, asphalt plant operations, and balanced mix design. While two tracks of training sessions were being held, two tracks of technical sessions were on-going. These sessions covered topic areas including e-technology, workforce development, research, and pavement recycling.
