While the promotion of asphalt is the purpose of VAA, the association’s core is the people who make up its member companies. These individuals give their time and talents to lead the association through the VAA Board of Directors. In the following months, Asphalt News will spotlight two VAA directors starting with the executive committee. To be elected to the executive committee is not a short-term commitment but a six-year responsibility. This month VAA features the current secretary and treasurer. We hope you enjoy these brief exposés on the personal side of each director.
DAVID WHITE, SECRETARY
My name is David White, and I am the executive vice president at Superior Paving Corp., headquartered in Gainesville, VA. I am accountable for our field operations, HR, IT, finance and trucking. My career started with Superior during high school, working summers, and continued in that same vein through college. I worked in the asphalt plants and on the paving crews, and I have now officially been with the company for 20 years. I earned my bachelor’s degree in business administration from Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina.
I was born, raised and still live in Fairfax, VA. My wife—of almost 20 years—Debby and I are proud parents of Grayson (13) and Sawyer (11). My hobby is my family as we spend a lot of our time on little league fields, playing golf, going to Washington Nationals games and traveling.
BOBBY HEDRICK, TREASURER
My name is Bobby Hedrick, and I am the director of preconstruction and sales for Branscome Incorporated Hampton Roads Division. It has been an honor to have been a member of the VAA Board since 2017.
I grew up in Tabb, VA, which is part of the Hampton Roads Community. I enjoyed playing sports through my childhood days and played football and basketball through high school. I received a basketball scholarship to the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, where I played four years and won our college’s first conference championship. I earned a bachelor’s degree in business and carried life lessons learned in athletics (hard work, competition and teamwork) into my career with Branscome. I have been with Branscome Inc. for 16 years and held multiple roles, including project manager, manufacturing operations manager, construction operations manager, and now oversee preconstruction and sales. I enjoy our industry because it has great people you work with from all different regions and backgrounds.
I have been married to my high school sweetheart Christine for 15 years, and we have four great kids. My hobbies include coaching basketball, golfing, snow skiing and just hanging out with the family at the beach or pool.
