As announced in late September, the 2020 Mid-Atlantic Asphalt Expo and Conference (MAAE 2020) has been canceled and replaced with MAAE Lite. Unlike past VAA technical conferences packed full of technical information and training sessions, MAAE Lite will be virtual and focused on three main topics—2021 Changes to VDOT Specifications, Standards, and Methods; VDOT Town Hall; and 2020 VDOT and VAA Paving Awards. MAAE Lite will be held on December 10, starting at 11:00am with “What’s New for 2021.” This 45-minute session will cover changes being implemented for the upcoming paving and construction season in materials and paving, traffic engineering, and general construction. At noon, the 2020 Paving Awards Program will be hosted virtually. Companies are encouraged to hold a luncheon for their crews and watch the ceremony. VDOT and VAA Paving Awards will be presented as well as the 2019 Golden Lute Award. Which company will affix their name to the coveted award? Ending MAAE Lite will be a VDOT Town Hall at 2:00pm. VDOT Senior Leadership will be discussing the impacts of COVID-19 on funding, legislation, and transportation revenue in the transportation program and the Six-Year Improvement Program.
To be part of MAAE Lite, register through the VAA website. The “What’s New for 2021” and the “VDOT Town Hall” will have nominal registration fees; the 2020 Paving Awards will be free. The individual session registration fee for VAA members will be $50 and $75 for non-VAA members. We hope to see you virtually in December.
