On Thursday, September 16, Women of Asphalt Virginia (WofA VA) hosted its first in-person event: the official branch kick-off at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond. This reception brought together women from various companies within the asphalt industry to network, learn more about the organization, and encourage membership and engagement. Fifteen women signed up to become official branch members during the event, bringing the total roster to 53 members since WofA VA launched in April. Natasha Ozybko, co-founder and president of Women of Asphalt National, tuned in virtually during the event to talk about how the organization came about and where the national organization stands with current initiatives. In addition, Sheretta Byrd of Branscome Inc. and Katie Surface of Superior Paving Corp. both expressed interest in joining the WofA VA committee during the event and have since joined the current chairwomen to lead in membership and marketing efforts.
WofA VA plans to continue its growth by hosting a luncheon during the Mid-Atlantic Asphalt Expo & Conference on December 16 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. To participate in the luncheon, you must be registered to attend the MAAE Conference. WofA VA will also have a booth within the tradeshow area, so stop by to chat with some fantastic members and support Women of Asphalt. You won’t be able to miss the booth: It will be PINK!
