On August 4, President Trump signed the Great American Outdoors Act. This act provides badly needed funding for the rehabilitation of many of the nation’s treasurers. Over 5 years, more than $1.9B will be invested each year into national parks, monuments, landmarks, etc. Within the Commonwealth of Virginia, many of these treasurers are seeking funds to repair pavements, bridges, buildings, and more. Shenandoah National Park has deferred maintenance totaling nearly $89 million; George Washington Memorial Parkway over $293 million; Blue Ridge Parkway’s total is $213 million, and Colonial National Historic Park totals $434 million (according to National Park Service’s summary report dated September 30, 2018). To learn more about this act, visit the National Park Service website. Soon, specific projects to be funded will be announced. As VAA learns more about the project’s list, we will share it with members.
